Oil concession areas in the AlgarveThe Algarve Free Oil Platform (PALP) asks the Algarve population to help «help to strengthen AMAL's rejection of oil and natural gas exploration in the Algarve», through its presence in Faro, on Friday, the 18th, at 10:30 am, at the headquarters of the Intermunicipal Community of Algarve, in Faro.

On that day, there will be a meeting between the AMAL (Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve) and ENMC (National Entity for the Fuel Market) to discuss the concession of the Algarve sea and land for the exploration, prospecting, development and production of oil and natural gas (conventional or non-conventional) that has been taking place since 2011 (with the last four contracts signed in September 2015).

The PALP says that "this is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the deep dislike for the way this whole process has been conducted and to show the mayors of the 16 municipalities of the Algarve that they must use all means to stop this scourge".

«At a time when, all over the world, alternative energies are being sought to replace fossil fuels, which are responsible for a significant part of global warming and the destruction of habitats that are economically essential for the human population, the intention of new places for the production of fossil fuels are based on an outdated and burdensome energy model, in any part of the planet», considers the PALP.

AMAL's headquarters are located at Rua General Humberto Delgado, number 20, close to Mercado Municipal de Faro.
