jazz concert on a winter nightThe Algarve Jazz Orchestra and its guest Manuela Lopes are the protagonists of the concert “Jazz Numa Noite de Inverno”, scheduled for Saturday, December 12, at 21 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium of Lagoa.

This concert will feature a repertoire of standards by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Woody Herman or even some passages through soft latin jazz, but with a lot swing.

Manuela Lopes was born in Mozambique and became known in the 80s, in the Algarve, when she participated in the concert by the internationally known British saxophonist Ronnie Scott. He currently teaches vocal technique at the Philharmonic Association of Faro, in the Algarve.

The Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, which was born from the edition of Lagos Jazz 2004, was founded in 2005, and is directed by the trumpeter Hugo Alves. It currently consists of 17 musicians, residing in the municipality of Lagoa.

OJA – Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, which oversees all its activities, is a non-profit association with the attribution of a Declaration of Cultural Interest issued by the Ministry of Culture and recently Public Utility issued by the Minister of the Presidency and Parliamentary Affairs.

This is a project considered to be the only one at the national level.
