Opening Home for the Elderly MarmeleteThe new Home for the Elderly at the Marmelete Day Center, in this parish in the municipality of Monchique, was inaugurated last Friday. The social equipment has the capacity to accommodate 24 users and will allow the creation of around two dozen jobs.

The construction of this infrastructure cost around one million euros, part of which came from the Human Potential Operational Program (POPH), with the remainder guaranteed by the Monchiquense municipality.

With this inauguration, «a dream of a whole population, already several years old, is fulfilled», considered the Mayor of Monchique Rui André, during the inauguration of the Home for the Elderly of Marmelete.

"It was not an easy work, given the various constraints we were facing and which were only overcome by the commitment and dedication of all the entities involved," he added.

For Rui André, the construction of this new valence in Marmelete, after a similar investment (Day Center and Home Support) in the Parish of Alferce, is more than «giving body to a much-needed social response», is also a « strategic investment in economic and social development”, for “creating jobs and generating dynamics in these low density territories”.

Inauguration Home for the Elderly Marmelete_2«It is important now that these cold walls bear witness to a work of dedication, solidarity and love, filling this Home with the human warmth that is so characteristic of working with these people and whose smiles will be the reward for a work that we know is always difficult» , concluded the Monchiquense aedile.

And there will be no shortage of money for that, since, according to the director of the District Social Security Center Ofélia Ramos, "it is also already possible to sign the Cooperation Agreement that will make it possible to finance the operation of this equipment."

"The CDSS is making an effort to provide the Algarve with more and better social responses, such as those that are inaugurated today, which present magnificent conditions, which enhance a high quality service", he added.
