INEM_3The General Inspection of Health Activities (IGAS) is following the inquiry that the Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHA) opened regarding the transfer of a patient with ischemic stroke from Faro to Coimbra, where he died yesterday.

Pedro Nunes, chairman of the CHA Board of Directors, had told the Sul Informação that everything pointed to the hospital's health professionals Faro involved in the care and referral of the patient acted in the best way possible, but even so, it was decided to launch an inquiry.

The 74-year-old man, who died at dawn on Monday, after having been in a deep coma at Coimbra Hospital for a few days, was originally treated in Faro and an ambulance warrant to Lisbon after being the victim of a stroke.

When he arrived at the Hospital de São José, he was refused entry, as, according to the national press, the doctor on duty was on his way out. From there, he took an ambulance to Coimbra, where he fell into a coma and ended up dying.

The IGAS opened a clarification process to accompany the process opened by the hospital of Faro. If the IGAS remains in doubt, it can then open its own inspection process.
