DSC_0191 (Custom)O Hospital de São Gonçalo de Lagos, hospital unit of the Portuguese group IMAG, will start "soon" to carry out free visual and auditory screenings in public and private schools in its area of influence, namely in the municipalities of Lagos and Aljezur.

"We have this capacity, with our Mobile Unit, so we are going to make it available to schools, but in a complementary logic to what is already offered by the services of the Regional Health Administration and in articulation with them", revealed João Sampaio , Executive Director of the Hospital and IMAG, in statements to the Sul Informação.

"What we offer has to be a much bigger answer than simple screening, we are creating a multidisciplinary team for a complete answer for children and young people, including an orthopedist, an otolaryngologist, a developmental pediatrician," he added.

These screenings should start "in the beginning of next year", in some private schools with which the Hospital of São Gonçalo de Lagos has protocols, namely "Colegio Bambino, here in Lagos, and some public schools", in a logic of action «in articulation with the teams of the Health Centres».

DSC_0030 (Custom)These revelations were made on December 1st, the date that marked the first year of the IMAG group at the head of the private hospital unit in Lagos. On that day, there was a party for the population and users at Largo Gil Eanes, under the watchful eye of D. Sebastião, in downtown Lagos, as well as the São Gonçalo Clinic, in S. Teotónio, was opened to the public. in the neighboring municipality of Odemira, integrated into the Hospital's network of services.

João Sampaio stressed that this first year in Lagos has been very positive: «we are growing a lot at the Hospital, more than we expected». This good performance has also helped by the fact that São Gonçalo is open with permanent assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

On the other hand, the Hospital has been investing in areas that no other hospital, public or private, can respond to, having acquired and already operating the most advanced CAT equipment in the south of the Tagus. This equipment allows making Angio TC Coronário, for example, making it possible to supply the «insufficient response from the Algarve» in the field of Imaging.

As for the new Clinic of São Gonçalo, in S. Teotónio, administrator João Sampaio explained that “the hospital should not serve as a center of proximity to these localities”, having to focus on services actually closer to the population. After the village in the municipality of Odemira, there is another clinic about to be opened early next year, in another neighboring municipality of Lagos.

"In S. Teotónio, the medical team is almost entirely shared with the Hospital de São Gonçalo, which guarantees good care for a population that is older and would have difficulty traveling to Lagos," he added.

On the other hand, in case it is necessary to carry out «more differentiated tests, such as a TAC, for example», the users of Clínica de S. Teotónio will come to Lagos, but «at no cost, as transport will be provided by the our vans”, said João Sampaio.

At Largo Gil Eanes, on the afternoon of December 1st, the 1st birthday party featured a giant cake that was cut by the mayor of Lagos Joaquina Matos and shared by the large dozen people who gathered for the party. There were also photographs with the mascot, Dr. Gonçalo, the possibility of making healthy shakes pedaling on a static bicycle and, finally, a release of blue and white balloons.
