Fifty-nine students from four classes of the 2nd cycle of the EB 2,3 School of São Vicente de Vila do Bispo inaugurated, last week, the field trips of the project Escolas & Paisagens de Vila do Bispo, in this new school year of 2015- 2016.
Accompanied by teachers and technicians of History and Archeology from the City Council, the young people had the opportunity to travel through the long history of the county, between the distant past of Prehistory, the memories of a recent past and the time of the maritime Discoveries overseas, integrating important cultural and historical landmarks in the local landscapes. Along the itinerary, various training and informational contents were transmitted, as well as curiosities.
The route began at some of the menhirs in Vila do Bispo (Pedra Escorregadia – Cerro do Camacho) and at the collective grave of Pedra Escorregadia, followed by a visit to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, in Raposeira.
Finally, the young students went to the Fortress of Sagres and passed through Cape St. Vincent, places of natural wealth and uniqueness in the most extreme point of Continental Europe.
Thus, continuity was given to the Vila do Bispo Schools & Landscapes project, an Education and Heritage and Environmental Awareness initiative, shared between the Vila do Bispo Schools Group and the City Council, which aims to promote Knowledge, Preservation, the Conservation, Valorization and Dissemination of the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, through shared experiences related to content available in the surrounding landscapes.
This initiative aims to highlight, with the school community, activities outside the classroom that show that the different syllabuses can be illustrated with real examples existing in the municipality.
