Albufeira Floods (28)The mayors of the Algarve declared themselves to be "solidarity" with their counterparts in Albufeira and Loulé for the damage caused by Sunday's storm, in a position taken within the AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve.

The Intermunicipal Council of this entity, which brings together the mayors of the 16 Algarve municipalities, met on Monday and “resolved unanimously to publicly express solidarity with these two municipalities as well as with their residents, who were the main victims of this tragedy. », according to AMAL.

«The dawn last Sunday was troubled all over the Algarve, against the backdrop of strong winds and heavy rains that caused damage and flooding throughout the region. The municipalities of Albufeira e Loulé they were heavily battered by the storm that flooded homes and commercial spaces, destroyed roads, felled trees and left dozens of people homeless, causing one person to be killed», framed the intermunicipal community.

The mayors of the region said that, at this time, «the municipalities of Albufeira and Loulé are seeking to regain strength to overcome what has happened and create conditions to return to normality, in the shortest possible time».

In Albufeira, where the storm left behind of itself a scene of destruction and chaos, the cleaning jobs already started on monday and involve not only the injured merchants and inhabitants, but also many volunteers, Portuguese and foreigners.

Taking into account the heavy losses recorded in this municipality, which can amount to millions of euros, the possibility of a request for declaration of public calamity or from Albufeira to be considered "critical flood zone".
