Now that the waters have subsided, it's time to get down to work, to try to recover what is possible. Since morning, the sound that is heard most in Albufeira is the noise of pumps removing water.

All the shops, restaurants, bars, houses and even a hotel (Baltum, the second oldest in the county) in the city's downtown were affected by the torrent of water and mud that, this Sunday, swept everything in its path.

Now, after a lot of washing, sweeping, picking, you can see the sidewalk that survived under the mud. At Praia dos Pescadores, where the old river opened a ravine again – as it did along the old riverside avenue, today from Liberdade, below – it is time to collect from the sea and sand waters what the torrent dragged, you know. if there from where.

In between, cars dragged and now perched in impossible positions, some still full of muddy water, streets and roads with the tarred gutted and pipes exposed, between deep potholes.

What counts is the willpower of those who want to return to normalcy as soon as possible…and the help of volunteers, family and friends.

Here are some pictures of the following day, in Albufeira, by Nelson Brito, to whom the Sul Informação thanks you for sharing your images;
