The Parish of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, in Olhão, will have a new priest as of this Saturday. Father Manuel Rodrigues will be replaced by Armando Filhó Amâncio. The inauguration of the new parish priest is scheduled for 17:30 pm, at the Igreja Matriz in Olhão.

According to the Chamber of Olhão, the change is due to "health problems of the current parish priest." Manuel Rodrigues has been in the parish for three years and, according to the local authority, «has carried out his mission in a way that is recognized by the faithful as “very positive”, being “very dear and esteemed”».

However, his health led him to ask the Diocese of Algarve to be replaced, although he remains in the city and at the service of the parish.

Armando Filhó Amâncio was ordained in 1997 and is 43 years old. He was the parish priest of S. Sebastião de Lagos and Odiáxere and “has roots in the city [of Olhão], where his father and grandfather were born”.
