Mass, deposition of a wreath at the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and even a concert are part of the homage that will be paid to Infante D. Henrique, on the 555th anniversary of his death, on Friday, November 13, in his village , the “Vila do Infante”, the current Fortaleza de Sagres.
The tribute, which will take place at the Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça, located inside the Fortaleza, is organized by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the Municipal Council of Vila do Bispo and the parishes of Raposeira, Vila do Bispo and Sagres.
The ceremony begins at 15 pm, with mass, following the laying of flowers on the replica of the Monument to the Discoveries inside that national monument, culminating in a concert by the String Duo of the Lagos Music Academy.
Interestingly, the concert will feature pieces by Georg Friedrich Händel and Johann Sebastian Bach, composers well after the Infante D. Henrique's time. The String Duo is composed by Mónica Azevedo (violin) and Bruna Melia (cello).
Infante D. Henrique died in Sagres on November 13, 1460.
