Almodôvar will mark, this Thursday, the first anniversary of the elevation of Cante Alentejano to Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, with a tribute to Cante. The initiative, scheduled for next Thursday, at 21 pm, at the Dr. João de Brito Camacho Secondary School, will be attended by the seven choral groups currently existing in the municipality.
For the executive of the Municipality of Almodôvar, «this first year of elevation of Cante Alentejano as a World Heritage Site, should be celebrated with its protagonists, in recognition of the role they have in the dissemination of our roots and our culture».
This tribute shows, according to the local authority, recognition “for the effort and commitment that all the members of the choral groups in our county make, often with personal and family sacrifices, to spread our Cante throughout the country and the world and for the dedication that has always had to take this noble art further”.
The classification of Cante Alentejano as Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity was attributed
by decision of UNESCO in Paris, on the 27th of November of last year.
