Three accordion players from the Algarve will represent Portugal in the 68th World Accordion Cup, which started today and runs until October 11, in the city of Turku (Finland).

The World Cup is one of the most important and demanding accordion competitions in the world, bringing together hundreds of competitors from the most varied nationalities.

Portugal will be represented by three young accordionists selected by the Mito Algarvio Association of Accordionists of the Algarve, who will fight for a place on the podium.

Thus, in the Junior Virtuoso category, compete Jéssica Guerreiro (Ferreiras) and Hernani Cerqueira (Tunes), both students of Professor Nelson Conceição, while in the Senior Virtuoso category competes Fábio Guerreiro (Tavira), a student of Professor Hermenegildo Guerreiro. The latter will be part of the judging team for this competition.

The World Cup is organized by the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA), an official member of the UNESCO International Music Council, together with the Finnish Accordion Association (Suomen Harmonikkaliitto).
