Symphony_Classic_OCS“A Sinfonia Clássica” is the theme of the concert that the Orquestra Clássica do Sul will give, on November 6th, at 21:30 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium of Lagoa, with works by Ibert, Mozart and Salieri and under the baton of the principal conductor Rui Pinheiro.

Since the Symphony, at its origin, started as a small instrumental piece in an improvised style, during the XNUMXth century it was established in Italy as a form in three movements that normally preceded an opera.

In the XNUMXth century, the composers of the so-called Viennese Classical School crystallized the Symphony as an independent form in four movements, which became the vehicle par excellence of classical music. Some of the works that marked this evolution will be presented by the Orquestra Clássica do Sul.

Founded in 2002 as Orquestra do Algarve, it becomes Orquestra Clássica do Sul in September 2013, with the objective of taking its music to the regions of the Algarve, Alentejo, Setúbal Peninsula and Andalusia (Spain), offering a diversified and of high artistic quality.

Its founders, in addition to Turismo do Algarve and the University of Algarve, are the municipalities of Albufeira, Faro, Lagos, Loulé, Portimão and Tavira. The municipalities of Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Lagoa, Olhão, Redondo, S. Brás de Alportel, Silves, Vila Real de S. António and Vila do Bispo and the University of Évora have since become associates.

Composed of musicians from twelve different nationalities, selected in an international public competition, it performs chamber music concerts, opera, Walk (intended for families), linked to other artistic expressions (such as jazz, fado, dance, literature), workshops e masterclasses.

It is also committed to a strong pedagogical and educational action with schoolchildren, reaching new audiences.

It presents concert cycles with national and international conductors and soloists, in a program that includes works from the baroque to the contemporary, in addition to the traditional concerts on festive occasions.

In its 2015 season, it presents a diversified program, both in repertoires and proposals for different audiences, where the erudite musical heritage, which is its essence, intersects with other artistic aspects and aims above all to create the spaces for it to be an institution dynamic in creating opportunities for young musicians, composers and conductors. He currently has Rui Pinheiro as main conductor, John Avery as associate conductor and Cesário Costa as main guest conductor.
