Jose Carlos BarrosThe Portugal à Frente coalition did not repeat, in the Algarve, the «expressive victory» achieved at the national level, but even so «it was just over a percentage point from being able to place an orange spot on the map, south of the Tagus», he considered José Carlos Barros, PàF list head for the Algarve circle.

The right-wing coalition elected three deputies across the region, with the 31,47 percent of votes it got, one less than the PS. Compared to 2011, the coalition loses two deputies in the Assembly of the Republic, for the Algarve, since, together, PSD and CDS-PP elected five deputies four years ago.

Close to his debut as a deputy, José Carlos Barros highlighted the victory of the PàF at the national level, "a result that was unthinkable a short time ago." And he pointed out that despite the fact that in the south of the Tagus all the districts were won by the PS, the coalition came very close to being able to «counter this trend», in the Algarve.

Despite this, the reality is that the PàF was defeated and placed one less parliamentarian than the PS, which is why José Carlos Barros “assumes my share of responsibility for not having achieved the objective of winning the elections here in the Algarve”.

During the legislature that will begin shortly, the members of the coalition elected by the Algarve – José Carlos Barros (independent), Cristóvão Norte (PSD) and Teresa Caeiro (CDS-PP) – they will "fight for the commitments made during the campaign", which include the "fight against seasonality", but also the attempt for areas such as "the Sea, agriculture and the rural world" to have a greater weight in the Algarve's economy .
