In a statement sent to the newsrooms, AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve said that the Algarve's municipalities decided to re-establish working hours of 35 hours a week, starting in November, after the Constitutional Court declared the government measure unconstitutional, which increased. the working hours of the civil service for the 40 hours a week.

AMAL adds that “it was with great satisfaction that the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve – AMAL and the Algarve municipalities received the news of the Constitutional Court's decision to reject the government's intervention in the collective work agreements carried out by the municipalities, namely in the agreements relating to the 35 weekly working hours. This important decision represents another victory for the local government».

According to the association of municipalities, «This was a process that had been dragging on for two years, when the working hours of the public service were reduced to 40 hours a week, and was finally ended in view of the recent announcement of the unconstitutionality of the measure, announced by the government, represents».

For AMAL, «the decisions regarding the workers' hours are the entire responsibility of the municipal councils, which, in this case, should only take into account the collective agreements that have been signed with the unions».

Jorge Botelho, president of AMAL, considers that «the return to working hours of 35 hours will contribute to increasing the well-being of municipal employees, who now have more time to spend with their families and at leisure, a fundamental measure to ensure increased productivity in the workplace'.
