Alexandra-Gonçalves1The Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve will lead the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Framework Convention of the Council of Europe Concerning the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society, aka Convention of Faro, to social networks.

The entity started posting the 24 articles in this document on its Facebook page this Tuesday, October 27th, and will continue to do so in the coming weeks, posting one article a day. Yesterday, article 1 was made known, which speaks of the general objectives of the convention.

This initiative was announced by the regional director of Culture of the Algarve Alexandra Gonçalves during the opening session of the international conference «Cultural Heritage, Knowledge and Citizenship», which aimed to mark the tenth anniversary of the signing of the convention.

The objective of the DR of Culture is to make the document and its objectives known, as this convention is closely linked to the enshrinement of citizens' right to heritage and the institution of individual and collective responsibility, in society, in relation to cultural heritage of the European peoples.

Alexandra Gonçalves argues that it is important for the population to know the content of the Convention, which has already been ratified by the European Council and is already in force, and challenges citizens to be vehicles for disseminating and promoting the document.
