The Municipality of Silves formalized its candidacy for “City of Wine 2016”, on the 23rd of October, when, at the invitation of the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities (AMPV), it was present at the 2nd National Wine Exhibition, inserted in the 35th National Festival of Gastronomy of Santarém, representing the Algarve.
The Silvense municipal executive considers this candidacy as «of the greatest importance», as it «consolidates a position already established by the Municipality with regard to the promotion of wines, a position that included the creation of the “Vinhos de Silves” brand and which allowed the identification of the wines. wine producers in the municipality (Silves has the largest number of wine producers in the Algarve) and subsequent work to promote the product and link it to the intangible heritage of the various parishes».
This time, the municipality was present at the 35th National Gastronomy Festival, with particular emphasis on the wine of Silves João Clara, awarded a silver medal in the 14th edition of the International Contest “La Selezione del Sindaco”.
There was a space for wine tastings, which took place between 18:00 and 20:30, providing a more direct contact with the producers and mayors of the municipalities present.

Wines and liquors: Quinta do Barranco Longo, Quinta dos Vales, João Clara, Quinta do Francês, Quinta do Barradas, Regionalarte, Talurdinha, Quinta da Vinha – Cabrita and Quinta Rosa – JAAP.
Confectionery: Marília Louçã, Teodorina Madeira and Quinta dos Avós.
