algarve Brass Forum“In the musical world, there is no racism or xenophobia. Music puts different brains to work in harmony, as a team. And this is what is lacking in our society». The words are from the young but already renowned musician Sérgio Carolino, guest ambassador of the first edition of the Algarve Brass Forum, which is taking place today and tomorrow at the Municipal Auditorium in Lagoa, with free admission.

Sérgio Carolino, who this morning gave a small conference, with a live demonstration, about his instrument, the tuba, to an audience made up especially of students from local schools, stresses that events like this Forum are «important, not so much for here come and play, but for the message that we are supposed to pass on».

In other words, this is an event beyond music, but starting from music. «What does it matter to be a musician if, around us, in society, there is nothing?», asked Sérgio Carolino, in an interview with Sul Informação.

Trumpeter Hugo Alves, founder of the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, which organizes this Brass Forum, underlined, in turn, that it is “an event for everyone and that transcends musical styles”, promoting the intersection between “musicians, students of music and the general public».

Being open to the public, this forum dedicated to wind instruments – the first of its kind in Portugal – includes conferences, always illustrated with the instruments in question, which started this morning, continue into the afternoon and take place tomorrow, Saturday.

After the tuba, we will talk (and demonstrate) about the clarinet, trumpet, trombone, saxophone or improvisation, not only in conferences with renowned musicians, but also with non-professional formations, namely students, from artistic education schools .

In the evening, today and tomorrow, there are concerts, which culminate with jam sessions. The concerts are always divided into two parts, «one about the so-called classical area, the other about jazz», but both show the potential of wind instruments.

This Friday, at 21 pm, the Kevin Wauldron Ensemble takes the stage of the Lagoa Municipal Auditorium to present the Classic Bits, followed by the Algarve Jazz Orchestra at 00 pm, with guests Javier Ortí, Luís Cunha and Lars Arens.

Tomorrow, Saturday, at 21 pm, the classical concert presents António Saiote and Pedro Ramos, while at 00 pm, closing the program for these two intense days, there will be a double concert Jazz Premium «Tubab & Tubax», with Sérgio Carolino, Mário Marques and Jorge Queijo .
