allowanceAfter two years of decline, the average weekly allowance for Portuguese students has risen again, now standing at 20 euros, three euros more than in 2014.

With this increase, the average amount provided by parents is close to that recorded in 2012: 23 euros. This is one of the conclusions of Observador Cetelem, which, in its most recent study, analyzed the behavior of Portuguese families in preparation for the new school year.

Although the average value is around 20 euros, most parents only provide up to 10 euros (31%) per week to their children for consumption during the school period.

A large percentage of parents (23%) give between 11 euros and 20 euros and 14% even offer an allowance between 21 euros and 30 euros. More residual is the percentage of Portuguese who make available from 31 euros to 40 euros (4%), from 41 euros to 50 euros (2%) and more than 50 euros (3%).

weekly valueAlso in the case of individuals who study, there is an increase in the allowance. Observer Cetelem found that he himself has 34 euros available per week to spend during the class period, eight euros more than in 2014. This figure is actually the highest in the last four years.

This analysis was developed in collaboration with Nielsen and applied, through a structured closed-question questionnaire, to 600 individuals, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 65 years. The survey was carried out between the 15th and 19th of May and the maximum error is +0,4 for a 95% confidence interval.
