parents without artistsA protest «Against the brutal cuts in Art Education» will take place tomorrow, the 21st, at 18 pm, at the door of the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, in Faro, where an electoral campaign rally with Pedro Passos Coelho and Paulo Portas will take place.

The protest is called by the Citizens' Movement in Defense of Public Education of Loulé, which calls for the participation of «all citizens residing in the Algarve, social movements in defense of education and culture, trade unions, political parties, civic and cultural associations in the region ».

The initiative follows the «brutal cuts in artistic education and its disastrous consequences for students who attend articulated education in public schools in the Algarve, putting at risk the training of hundreds of young people at the beginning of this school year and compromising future learning of an artistic and dignified cultural formation enshrined as a right in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic».

The protest is intended to demand from Passos Coelho e Portas, leaders of the Portugal Ahead coalition (PSD/CDS), who that night will be the stars of a dinner-rally at the Algarve Hotel School, «the funding of artistic and the guarantee for the Portuguese to have access to culture and to learn the arts under dignified conditions».

“Artistic education is not a luxury, it should not be aimed only at the elites and it is fundamental for the development of a country that wants to be civilized”, stresses the Movement.

«Show up, spread the word, bring another friend too! Bring cardboard, banners, music instruments, let's give music to Minister Nuno Crato!” is the appeal of the organizers.
