Seniors' Day 2015 posterLagos will celebrate the International Day of the Elderly, which is celebrated on October 1st, with a three-day program of activities, which ends on October 3rd. According to the Municipality of Lagos, the activities aim to "raise society's awareness of the issues of healthy aging and the importance of protecting and caring for the elderly population."

Opening the program, on October 1st, and in articulation with the Live Science Center of Lagos, the Atelier “The Mathematics and Biology of Knitting” will be promoted, within the scope of the project “Science has no age”. In this activity, participants will have the opportunity to contact the raw materials (Biology) and the geometric patterns created (Mathematics), in a session where knitting will be the aggregating theme to explore some of the concepts of these two sciences. At the end, there will be a guided tour of the Lagos Living Science Center.

This activity, limited to a maximum of 40 participants, is exclusive for users of the “Saúde em Movimento” project and is subject to prior registration.

On October 2nd, at 10:00 am, the XXI Century City Hall Auditorium receives the awareness-raising action “It's Time to be Happy”. This action will have two moments: the opening session of the “Saúde em Movimento” project, followed by Maria João Quintela, president of the Psychogerontology Association and consultant to the General Directorate of Health, and Maria Alexandra Araújo, representative of the Portuguese Association for Studies and Intervention in Positive Psychology will talk about happiness in old age.

On the 3rd, at 14:30 pm, in the Pavilion of the Lucinda Anino dos Santos Social Assistance Center there will be a ball, with animation by “Ana and Edgar”. In this initiative, «with a view to strengthening and promoting intergenerational relations», there will also be a moment of action by children, students of the Lagos Dance Association.
