Queen D Leonor SquareThe only ATM in Ferragudo was closed by Banco Santander Totta on the last day of August, but the Parish Council has already «started talks with another banking entity» to install this equipment in the village again.

According to the Parish Council of Ferragudo, at the moment, the situation is “in the process of being finalized, with a view to its installation as quickly as possible”, in the vicinity of Largo Rainha D. Leonor.

That local authority recalls, in a statement, having had "timely knowledge" that Banco Santander Totta was preparing to remove the ATM from that square in the center of the town, "under pressure from the new owner of the building" where it was located and thepost the closing of the counter there, in April 2013.

«Due to several steps with the banking entity, it was possible to postpone this closing to the end of August», but Santander Totta did not accede to requests from the Parish Council to move the ATM to another building, suggested by the municipality.

The Board therefore condemns the "mercantilist instincts that led to this decision, as well as the lack of sensitivity" of that bank, "whether for its customers, either for citizens and tourists who see yet another service closed in the Parish."

Therefore, in order to defend the «citizens, as well as the commercial and tourist activity of the village», the Parish Council has already agreed with another banking entity to open a new ATM, which should happen soon.
