They follow in groups, painted or covered in mud, dressed in strange garb of bright colors, and often with unpleasant smells. The new students at the University of Algarve are once again “invading” the streets of Faro, in another Caloiro Parade, which will take place today, Tuesday, from 14:30 pm.
As is tradition, the procession departs from the University of Algarve's Penha Campus and follows the streets of the Algarve capital, towards Largo São Francisco. Next to the Dock of Faro, freshmen and veterans will take a Public Bath, courtesy of Firefighters from Faro.
This is one of the highlights of the Caloiro Reception Week, an event organized by the Academic Association of the University of Algarve that ends next Thursday.
This year, students can participate in the parade, without worrying about the classes, since the Dean of UAlg has decreed a day off, due to the realization of this event.
