Athlete Ana cabecinha was welcomed «apothetically», on her return home, to Pechão, in the city of Pechão, after having achieved 4th position in the 20 kilometers march in the World Athletics Championship, which took place in Beijing (China).
The village in the municipality of Olhão dressed up to welcome the “prodigal daughter” and her coach Paulo Murta, a party that was concentrated in the Clube Oriental de Pechão, which the marcher represents. The session was attended by the mayor of Olhão António Pina and Lara Ramos, from the Athletics Association of the Algarve, as well as «family, friends and many anonymous people», according to the municipality of Olhão.
Ana Cabecinha thanked the tribute and added that, now, she will enjoy «a well-deserved vacation period to recharge your batteries and prepare for the Olympic Games, which will take place next year in Brazil».
«The 4th place achieved by the athlete with a time of 1:29.29 is the best mark ever in the Portuguese march. With this result, Ana Cabecinha placed the municipality of Olhão, the village of Pechão and its club in the entire world press», highlighted the Chamber of Olhão.
At the reception, António Pina highlighted “the pride that the whole council felt upon knowing this brilliant result, because everyone knew that Ana Cabecinha would give her all and that means being at the top, which is her place”. And he took the opportunity to raise the bar, considering that "the sky is the limit, that is, the Olympic podium next year, in Brazil."
