hospital Faro_urgency entry2The Algarve's PS and PCP went public with a public condemnation of the temporary suspension of care for pregnant women, in some specialties, announced by the Obstetrics Service of the Hospital de Faro.

For both parties, this situation is a reflection of the degradation of the National Health Service in the Algarve.

In an internal communication, the direction of this service announced that, due to the lack of doctors, it would have to be “temporarily suspended, in the months of August and September, the performance of obstetric ultrasounds, Maternal-Fetal Medicine consultations and referral consultations at 38 weeks for pregnant women who are being followed in the units of the Health Center Groups (ACES) of Sotavento and Central .

Following the news that was made public, among which the Sul Informação, the PS/Algarve expressed its "concern and indignation", where it regrets "that the CHA progressively reduces the health care it makes available to Algarve users and those who visit us" and gives as an example "the increase in list times waiting for consultations and/or interventions of different specialties».

On the other hand, the PCP considered that «this serious decision – like others that have been taken – illustrates, once again, the process of continuous degradation of the National Health Service in the region and in the country, as part of the NHS dismantling strategy and increasing privatization of health care”.

The PS's criticisms were also extended to the Algarve Regional Health Administration, calling into question the solution that this entity guaranteed to the Sul Informação that I was preparing. But, the next day, ARS announced that it signed a contract with the Hospital Privados do Algarve group the performance of procedures that the CHA is not able to guarantee.

A solution that does not please the PCP, which considers that this recourse to private companies feeds “a business that grows at the expense of the public purse and the destruction of the NHS”.

The communists added that they would, through deputy Paulo Sá, question the Government in the Assembly of the Republic about this situation and demand that “urgent measures be taken to strengthen the clinical picture of the Hospital de Faro to answer this and other problems».

«Affecting the majority of the Algarve's municipalities, this measure confirms once again that those responsible for the area of health in the Algarve are not up to the places they occupy or respect the interests and needs of the Algarve's citizens», he concluded, in turn, the PS.
