Variant Faro openThe main section of the last phase of the North Bypass a Faro it has already been opened for circulation, but there are still some interventions to be able to say that the work is finished.

Most of the interventions still to be carried out, such as the completion of the connection to the Rotunda de Olhão and the junction to the EN2, will only be completed in October, but the Municipal Road 518 (between the roundabouts of Olhão and Conceição) will open «from now on one week".

The work continues, but, in the view of the President of the Chamber of Faro, the most important thing is that a link that will give a big boost to traffic has finally been completed. Faro and in the Algarve». Although there was no official opening ceremony, out of respect for the victims of an accident that occurred this Monday in Patã, Rogério Bacalhau and those responsible for the work were at the site about an hour before the road opened to traffic.

«For me, the 17th of August is going to be a historic day for the council, but also for the Algarve, because this road will have implications for mobility within Faro and throughout the region. Today, a very old aspiration of the people of Farense is fulfilled, which will bring great advantages to the council, in competitive and environmental terms», considered the mayor Farense, in statements to the Sul Informação.

In addition to the bypass links to the Rotunda de Olhão and the EN2, the viaduct that will connect the Rotunda de Olhão and Areal Gordo is also planned to be completed in October “with all safety conditions”, as illustrated by Rogério Bacalhau.

This was the main work of the Rotas do Algarve Litoral concession, which confirmed to our newspaper, through its managing director Rui Sousa, that the Troto Variant should also be completed in October.

The remaining interventions on the EN125 under the responsibility of the concessionaire “should be completed in March 2016, as planned”, according to Rui Sousa. The works will be back in force “as of September”, so as not to collide with the tourist peak season.

This is valid for works between Faro and Vila do Bispo, since with the renegotiation of the contract between Estradas de Portugal and Rotas do Algarve Litoral, the section of the EN125 between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António is back under the responsibility of the public company.

The works, in this section, have not yet advanced, but there is already an agreement to start still in 2015, to be concluded «before the end of 2016», according to the president of Infraestruturas de Portugal António Ramalho.

O Sul Informação took advantage of and “debuted” the North Variant, before its official opening. See the video of the trip here:
