The “Consultório de Poesia” is today in Armação de Pêra and tomorrow it “moves” to Praia Grande, between 10:00 and 12:00. The initiative promoted by the Municipal Library of Silves, in partnership with the Education Sector of the Municipality of Silves, will «share poetry on the beach, helping to improve the emotional and psychological health of holidaymakers.
According to a press release from the Chamber of Silves, poetry can help at "affective, professional, financial life, in its relationship with time (time management or difficulty in mourning a loved one), etc.».
This Poetry Practice is part of «bibliotherapy, or therapy through reading, but at a very basic level, naturally, because this involves sessions with a frequency defined by various specialists in different areas».
The council explains that "In England this is already a standard practice prescribed by many psychiatrists along with medication" and that "very recently, specialists in Science, Psychology and English Literature from the University of Liverpool confirmed that poetry reading is much more effective and therapeutic than reading self-help books».
This reading promotion activity takes place under the Blue Flag Program and is now in its third edition.
