It was just a rehearsal, but it has already served to give an idea of what will be the concert that Mick Harvey will perform this Tuesday, at 21 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro.

The Australian musician, composer, producer and music director will play english versions of songs by chanson française master Serge Gainsbourg, in a show that gives him special pleasure to interpret.

Gainsbourg's genre is quite different from what Harvey has accustomed his audience to. But, at today's concert, the Australian will not let him show a more “dark” side, referring to the time he played in the band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, or to his collaborations with PJ Harvey.

Mick Harvey is accompanied, in this concert, by a truly international band, which is not even lacking in the Algarve. The region will be represented by violinists Ângela Alves, José Dias, Mónica Azevedo and Pedro Sá, from the Academy of Music of Lagos, who will only participate in this concert, as the Australian musician recruits new violinists in every place he visits.

At yesterday's rehearsal, the props were left in the suitcase and the 10 artists on stage took advantage of the time available to mingle, not only because there were new elements, but also because Mick Harvey had not played with some of these musicians "for about a year" .

The reason for this to happen is linked to the exceptionality of this concert. The show «Intoxicated Man» follows on from the work carried out by Mick Harvey in the 90s of adaptation and edition on disc of the songs of Serge Gainsbourg. But the songs edited then ended up being only on the record, as, at the time, the Australian didn't want to tour to play them.

It was only after the reissue of the two albums, in 2014, that Harvey “went to the road”, to share these songs live with the public.

Today's concert is therefore a rare opportunity to hear these songs in a live act. For now, and as far as Portugal is concerned, it is only guaranteed the concert that the Australian will star in, tomorrow, in Ílhavo, Aveiro.
