poster_festival caracolThe snail-stuffed puff pastry, “Çahroi”, will be the big news this year on the menu of the International Caracol Festival in Castro Marim. The new flavor is joined by others already known and beer, regional sweets and Portuguese popular music. The festival takes place from the 3rd to the 5th of July at Colina do Revelim de Santo António.

According to the Chamber of Castro Marim, «the presence of chefs of international cuisine refine the variety of flavors of the famous appetizer. For three days you can taste the best snails made in the Algarve, in the country, but also the most appreciated flavors in France, Spain and Morocco».

Regional sweets will also have their space with the traditional filhós, Dom Rodrigo, or carob pie.

As far as music is concerned, tomorrow, the 3rd, the stage entertainment starts at 20 pm with a show by Afonso Dias and Teresa da Silva, followed by a concert by the Banda Musical Castromarinense.

On Saturday, the music is by the group “Fado Lelé”, «which brings together four musicians in an unusual formation, with a repertoire based on popular urban music from other decades and classics of fado from the past». The show, at 22 pm, is preceded by the animation “A Charola do Burrinho”, by the group “Ao Luar” (Regional Theater of Serra do Caldeirão).

The street entertainment will be in charge of the group “Al Fanfare”, on Friday and Saturday, and of “Banda à Riscas” and “Mato Bravo”, on Sunday.

Closing the 2015 edition of the festival, on July 5th, the group “D'Alambre”, which brings sounds from Spain and Portugal, but, at the same time, «carries Latin America in its luggage, in a flurry of rhythms and melodies that promise a great musical moment».

According to the City Council, «stating Castro Marim as a destination for the best snails in the Algarve and promoting traditional products, Mediterranean cuisine and culture» are the objectives to be achieved with the realization of the International Caracol Festival.
