Monchique hamThe taste of traditional Monchique ham will be the highlight of the weekend in the village. The Feira do Presunto starts this Friday and takes place, until Sunday, at the Parque de S. Sebastião.

In addition to gastronomy, the City Council hopes that the musical program will be able to attract many people to the mountain village.

The ham will be “king”, but other flavors from the Serra de Monchique will also be present, such as sweets, bread or arbutus.

"39 exhibitors will be present, including ham and sausages [five in all], sweets, bread, honey, arbutus, jams, liqueurs, crafts and also bars," said the vice-president of the Monchique Chamber, Luís Grade, to Sul Informação.

The fair opens on Friday at 18 pm and, late into the night, there will be musical performances with the Coral and Instrumental Group of the Monchique Senior Academy and by Eulália and Vânia Nunes.

On Saturday, it is time for the “Irmãos Verdade” to take the stage and, on Sunday, Ana Malhoa and India Malhoa are responsible for the musical entertainment. Both concerts are scheduled to start at 22:00.

The younger ones will also have a special attraction: «we're going to have donkey rides. There is an association that brings donkeys and the kids love it», revealed Luís Grade.

Admission to the Ham Fair and concerts is free

Medronho will have a festival "just for you"

StrawberryIn previous years, the Medronho Festival coincided with the Ham Fair, but that won't happen in 2015. All because the Medronho will have an event dedicated to itself in its entirety.

«[The Medronho Festival] was withdrawn. We are maturing ideas to create a medronho event. They will be two independent things. Let's see when, possibly in October or November, when you start to pick up the arbutus and make the styles. We are going to start working and I hope that, soon, the fruits of the medronho and of the festival can be reaped”, said the councilor.
