vacations and expensesThe Portuguese who intend to take holidays away from home admit to spend, on average, 706 euros, an amount slightly below the budget that was made available last year, of around 767 euros.

In general, there is a lower spending intention compared to 2014, both in the case of holidays in Portugal and abroad. This is one of the conclusions of Observador Cetelem, which analyzed the consumption intentions of the Portuguese in the coming months, namely the budget available for the holidays.

The amount available for vacations varies according to the destination. The Portuguese who intend to take holidays within the national territory think to spend, on average, 631 euros, less than last year (673 euros).

Consumers who intend to travel abroad also reduced the amount available for holidays: 1.124 euros against 1.446 euros in 2014.

«This year, the Portuguese reveal a greater intention to spend holidays away from home, but less willingness to spend in this segment. This trend results from the fact that, nowadays, consumers are increasingly planning their vacations, more in advance and looking for the best prices. The promotional campaigns of entities linked to tourism, which are more and more frequent, are also a help», explains Diogo Lopes Pereira, marketing director of Cetelem.

This analysis was developed in collaboration with Nielsen and applied, through a structured closed-question questionnaire, to 600 individuals, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 65 years. The survey was carried out between the 15th and 19th of May and the maximum error is +0,4 for a 95% confidence interval.
