vacation at homeAbout 31% of Portuguese consumers consider spending holidays in their place of residence due to lack of financial availability, and 10% admit to staying at home, but for another reason.

However, the majority of the Portuguese think that they will spend their holidays away from where they live (50%), more than in 2014 (39%). These are the conclusions of the most recent study by Observador Cetelem, which questioned the Portuguese about their consumption intentions for the coming months.

Although many Portuguese people spend their holidays in their place of residence, this is less than in 2014. Last year, 57% of individuals admitted staying at home, substantially more than now (41%).

There are also fewer consumers pointing out the lack of financial availability as a reason for not taking holidays away from home (31%, against 45% in 2014).

The study also reveals that individuals between 25-34 years and 35-44 are those who express the greatest intention to take holidays away from their place of residence (41% and 35%, respectively).

The oldest respondents, aged between 55 and 65, are the ones who most admit not taking holidays away from home due to lack of financial availability (45%).

This analysis was developed in collaboration with Nielsen and applied, through a structured closed-question questionnaire, to 600 individuals, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 65 years. The survey was carried out between the 15th and 19th of May and the maximum error is +0,4 for a 95% confidence interval.
