Jorge GasparThe number of unemployed people registered at the Algarve Job Centers halved in May, when compared to the same month in 2013. Two years ago, there were 40 people registered, but now there are 20, as he said today, in Faro, Jorge Gaspar, president of the IEFP.

Jorge Gaspar, speaking to the Sul Informação, said that these numbers – which are even lower than those recorded in 2011 (22 thousand subscribers) – are not associated with the issue of seasonality, despite having been obtained in the month immediately prior to the start of the bathing season.

The drop in unemployment is a «trend, not only, but also in the Algarve. It has been constant, it is not a casual situation and these are not numbers that result from a seasonal effect, far from it», he guaranteed.

The official said that this decline is due "to the capacity that companies and the Algarve economy have had to create jobs, which, from the point of view of unemployment, has an effect, which is its decline."

The president of the IEFP says he is sure “that companies in the Algarve will continue to invest and, in this way, will continue to create jobs in the future.

Protocol with ACRAL reintegrates 50 long-term unemployed in Algarve companies

DSC_0800Jorge Gaspar was this Tuesday in Faro to sign a protocol with ACRAL, which provides for the integration of long-term unemployed to carry out internships in the workplace in companies in the region, through the Vida Ativa measure.

This initiative, which provides for the placement of 50 interns in Algarve companies, is now in its second edition and was the success of the first protocol that led the IEFP and ACRAL to renew it.

Last year, of the 50 interns, 10 got a job contract at the internship location and, for ACRAL president Vítor Guerreiro, the goal is to increase this hiring rate. «We intend to duplicate and place, with a work contract, instead of 10, 20 people», he revealed.

Jorge Gaspar, on the other hand, guaranteed that the signing of this protocol comes from the «assessment we made from the first protocol that was positive».

The responsible for the IEFP at the national level said, however, that the final results of the initiative are still to be evaluated, since «the ten people who signed a contract, signed it right after the conclusion of the training, with the companies where they trained. Normally, results are measured at six and nine months after the internship».
