to see stars_2The medieval town of Monsaraz will receive in its streets the traveling astrophotography exhibition “O Vinho eo Céu” by Miguel Claro. The exhibition is part of the 2015 European City of Wine program, it will open on Saturday, June 27, at 18:00, and can be enjoyed until September 30th.

In this exhibition, the visitor will dive into the “Universe Dark Sky Alqueva” and let himself be guided by images that portray from celestial and atmospheric phenomena, to the strong megalithic presence of the region, which in a union between Heaven and Earth, proves to be the perfect setting to emphasize Monsaraz's scenic and cultural heritage, serving as the perfect natural setting to highlight the overwhelming and imposing presence of our galaxy, the Milky Way, filled with swarms of stars, gaseous nebulae and stellar dust, brings out the imagination dream of anyone.

Miguel Claro is a professional photographer, author and scientific communication communicator in the field of Astronomy.

It is also the official astrophotographer of Dark Sky Alqueva Reserve and member of the “Fotonature” team of trainers.

to see stars_1Also collaborates with the magazine National Geographic Portugal, with the Civil and Space and Astronomy Magazine. He is the presiding judge of the international night photography competition “Photo Nightscape Award – PNA”, which takes place annually in Paris. He has already lectured at two TEDx editions, in Lisbon and Caldas da Rainha, and is the author of the book “Astrofotografia – Imagens à luz das Estrelas”, by Centro Atlântico. His images have traveled the world and been published in various media, in the most prestigious magazines and international pages such as NASA's “Astronomy Picture of the Day”.

The traveling astrophotography exhibition “O Vinho e o Céu” is organized by the Municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz and by Genuineland – Aldeia do Alentejo Tourism Network.

Reguengos de Monsaraz integrates the Dark Sky Alqueva Reserve, the first site in the world to receive the certification Starlight Tourism Destination awarded by UNESCO and the World Tourism Organization.
