A 70-year-old man died this afternoon, being run over by a regional convoy, at the Portimão level crossing, confirmed the Sul Informação from the source of the District Operational Relief Command (CDOS).
The alert for the accident was given at 17:28 pm, and the man died immediately. The body was designed to be off the railway line, added source from CDOS.
A witness to the accident told the Sul Informação that the old man stepped onto the line as the train approached the level crossing, the gate was closed and the beep was audible.
At the site were seven vehicles and 17 operational, from the Voluntary Firefighters of Portimão, INEM, PSP and Refer.
Due to the accident, the level crossing was closed for at least an hour, affecting traffic on this one of the main entrances and exits in the city of Portimão.
