OctopusThe Municipality of Odemira promotes, from today until the 12th, the Gastronomic Week of Southwest Alentejo Octopus, which will take place in restaurants in the towns of Almograve, Boavista dos Pinheiros, Longueira, Odemira, Vila Nova de Milfontes and Zambujeira do Mar .

Between June 5th and 7th, the best delicacies made with octopus can also be enjoyed at the restaurants participating in the Fei~tur – National Sports and Nature Tourism Fair, which will take place in Vila Nova de Milfontes, namely in the “Mar e Sol”, “Porto das Barcas” and “Tasca do Celso” restaurants.

There will be several octopus dishes available on the menus of the restaurants “Planície” and “O Bernardo” (in Boavista dos Pinheiros), “O Lavrador” (in Almograve), “O Josué” and “João da Longueira” (Longueira), “ Oasis" (Praia Furnas-Rio, in the Parish of Longueira/Almograve), "Fonte Férrea" and "O Escondidinho do Poço" (in Odemira), "Mar e Sol", "Tasca do Celso" and "Porto das Barcas" ( in Vila Nova de Milfontes), “Nelmar”, “Sacas” and “I” brewery (in Zambujeira do Mar).

Octopus can be tasted in different ways: in cataplana, octopus rice, à lagareiro, octopus salad, in a frying pan with garlic, fried, grilled, sautéed, feijoada, stew, octopus pataniscas, breaded octopus or even octopus to the fisherman.

The specificity of the habitat combined with the diversity of food gives the octopus of the Southwest Alentejo unique organoleptic characteristics in terms of texture and flavor, making it one of the most appreciated and sought after products.

With this initiative, the municipality intends to "value one of the best products on the Odemirense coast: octopuses caught in the region, of enormous quality and with a wide range of gastronomic uses".
