The finals of the 2015 National School Championships for Beginners begin tomorrow, Saturday, and will continue until next Tuesday, June 23, in Albufeira, in an initiative of the General Directorate of School Establishments/Services Department of the Algarve Region, in partnership with the Municipality.
The event, which will bring together, for four days, approximately 800 athletes and 2000 companions, including parents, friends and relatives of the participants who purposely travel to Albufeira to watch the competition, aims to be a reference sporting event in the country.
In competition will be the winners of the Regional Championships in Athletics, Badminton, Futsal and Volleyball.
The games, which will take place at the Sports Pavilions of Albufeira, Paderne, Olhos de Água and at the EB 1 de Ferreiras and EB 2,3 Francisco Cabrita schools, are scheduled for Sunday (21) and Monday (22), between 9:00 am and at 19:00.
Highlights of the program, on the first day, June 20, are the Opening Session of the Championships, starting at 21:30 pm, at the Albufeira Municipal Pavilion, on Monday, 22, at 22:00 pm, in the same place, the Ceremony Awarding of Trophies and Medals and on Tuesday, 23, at 18 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium, the Ceremony of Awarding the School Sports Awards.
In parallel, there is a social program that includes a social night at a disco, a Beach party at Pescadores beach and a visit to Zoomarine.
The mayor of Albufeira describes the initiative as “a great event linked to Youth and Sport that contributes to reinforcing the image of Albufeira as a young, dynamic and quality of life municipality”.
Carlos Silva e Sousa also points out that this type of event places Albufeira at a level of great notoriety in terms of sporting events, thus contributing to promote the municipality as a destination that has all the conditions to host competitions and stages of sporting events for large teams nationals and internationals.
Albufeira's association with the holding of National School Championships for Initiates «is part of the Municipality's commitment to sporting activities as a way of promoting the destination, such as the “International Cross of Amendoeiras em Flor”, the Albufeira stage of “Volta ao Algarve by Bike”, the games of the “Algarve Cup”, the “TIFFA – International Adapted Football Tournament”, the “Basketball Party”, the “1st Triathlon of Albufeira”, among other sporting events of great media relevance ».
The event's Honor Committee is made up of the Minister of Education Nuno Crato and the Mayor of Albufeira, Carlos Silva e Sousa.
