goNuno Filipe Monteiro, firefighter-specialist diver and supervisor of the Diving and Water Rescue Brigade of the Portimão Fire Department, is the new coordinator of the Algarve Water Rescue Intervention Unit.

Appointed last May 9th by the Operational Commander of the District Grouping of the National Civil Protection Authority, Vítor Vaz Pinto, this firefighter from Portimão is now responsible for coordinating the unit that includes all elements of the Fire Departments in the Algarve region. accredited to perform functions in the context of diving, lifeguard and rescue boat driving, in accordance with the legislation and operational rules in force.

UNISA08, as this specialized unit is called, has as its mission the rescue of shipwrecked people, the rescue of people or animals in imminent danger of life in an aquatic environment, searches in the water and underwater plan to locate people, animals, equipment and materials, as well as their recovery to the surface.

Its mission is also to intervene in underwater structures that jeopardize the safety of people and goods, as well as the safety of sports, leisure and other activities that take place in an aquatic environment.

The mobilization of this unit is carried out by the Operations and Communications Room (SALOC) of the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Faro, for occurrences in the Algarve Region, and may, at the request of the National Relief Operations Command (CNOS), intervene in the entire area of ​​the national territory or participate in international missions.

It is now up to the new coordinator to prepare the unit's annual activity plan, which includes instruction and training, training, management of resources and resources, as well as evaluating and classifying divers in the annual aptitude tests and keeping records of the activity operational development developed by the stakeholders, ensuring a high degree of readiness and differentiated levels of mobilization, given the operational demand in this area.
