«The Value of Medronho in the Algarve» is the theme of a workshop promoted by the Escola Profissional de Alte, on the 12th of May, starting at 9:30 am, as part of its project «A Escola ea Comunidade».
With the aim of enhancing the connection between the school and the local and regional economic and social fabric, the students of Alte Professional School developed a set of studies and actions under the theme of “Medronho”, namely the development of innovative food products.
This seminar will be attended by various representative entities and personalities linked to the theme, from various perspectives: the production process of arbutus brandy, new uses of arbutus, marketing and use of arbutus, licensing of distilleries, the organization of producers, culture strawberry tree – value and biological culture.
Within the scope of the initiative, there will also be an exhibition of products based on arbutus.
The Vocational School project also aims to provide the surrounding community with «opportunities to contact with additional information on the ways and levels of exploitation of the region's resources, the potential of its most representative and even traditional cultures and activities, as well as information and diverse approaches about these themes'.
They will also be able to get in touch with comparative data and with practices from other regions where the same activities are carried out on which the project is developed.
The workshop will take place in the auditorium of the Escola Profissional de Alte and are confirmed
the presence of the regional director of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve and the councilor of
Loulé City Council Education.
