Videomapping at the Cathedral of Faro_4 Algarve Design MeetingThe many facets of design will be re-focused in another edition of the Algarve Design Meeting, which will take place on the 25th, 29th and 30th of May, in Faro and Loulé.

The videomapping festival, which will take place at Largo da Sé, in Faro, promises to be a high point, but there will be much more to see and do, namely exhibitions, seminars and workshops.

Despite maintaining the same structure, the fifth edition of this initiative, organized by the Department of Communication, Arts and Design of the University of Algarve-ESEC and AND – National Association of Designers, will have some evolutions. One of them is the attribution of a prize to the best videomapping work that is shown.

In the Church of the Cathedral, in Faro, works will be projected by students from the Communication Design and Animated Image course at the University of Algarve-ESEC and by students from the Faculty of Communication and Multimedia, at the University of Tomas Bata, in the Czech Republic.

“This videomapping festival is very important, although nowadays there are many events in this area. But ours shows exclusively student works, which are not commercial or commissioned projects, but the result of research. I think this is unique in Portugal», said the general coordinator of the Algarve Design Meeting António Lacerda, speaking to Sul Informação.

This videomapping exhibition turns out to be the initiative that most highlights the open nature of the event. Despite being dedicated to a specific area, this meeting is made thinking “of the entire population”. «Everyone is invited to participate, it is always important to emphasize that the Algarve Design Meeting is open to everyone», recalled António Lacerda.

In other words, it is a meeting that the University of Algarve, of which António Lacerda is a professor, and the AND, the association he presides over, promote with the population.

Algarve Design Meeting has grown “to the side”

POSTER_Design Meeting 2015The “extension” of this meeting to the neighboring county is another new feature of the 2015 edition, as well as the inclusion of more spaces in the county of Faro, which has hosted the meeting since its launch.

«This year we are also going to be in Loulé. By the way, it is there that the Algarve Design Meeting starts, on the 25th. We will have a first seminar, at the Municipal Museum of Loulé and, later, the inauguration of the exhibition of the works of the 1st Edition of the Master in Communication Design for Tourism and Culture in University of Algarve – ESEC», revealed António Lacerda.

This exhibition, taking place at the Museu de Loulé, will be on display from May 29th to June 31st, similarly to what will happen with the ones that will be inaugurated in several spaces of Faro, namely the Museum of Faro, Tertúlia Algarvia, FNAC-Faro, the UAlg School of Education and Communication, the O Castelo bar and the Cidade Velha Bar.

In the latter cases, works by final year students of the Communication Design, Animated Image course will be shown.

Some of these places will also host other events from the event. In Faro, on the 29th and 30th of May, there will be seminars at the Municipal Museum and workshops, which will be spread across the different spaces associated with the Algarve Design Meeting, located in Vila-adentro of the Algarve capital.

In the Museum of Faro, in addition to the seminars, which will bring together several national and international speakers, who will share their experiences and present their projects, there will be an exhibition area «dedicated to the presentation of products or services, which have somehow been looking for new ways of expression or that have contributed to the development of these areas».

The aim of the Algarve Design Meeting 2015, which includes the Sul Informação as a media partner, it is, as always, to continue to promote the importance of communication and audiovisual design as strategic and fundamental areas of intervention for social, cultural and economic development.
