Olhão Fisherman's DayFisherman's Day is once again celebrated with many activities, in Olhão, on May 31st.

The Jardim Pescador Olhanense and the Museum of Olhão are once again the focal points of the party, but anyone who wants to know more about the research being done in the area will have a golden opportunity, as the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere will promote a Open morning at the Pisciculture Pilot Station in Olhão, on the 1st of June.

The public institute is one of the entities that support the event, like Docapesca, and suggests direct contact with the research unit it maintains in Pinheiros de Marim, the headquarters of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Here, different methods of fish production in aquaculture are tested.

The day before, May 31, the Fisherman's Day celebrations begin with a Petanque tournament, scheduled for 10 am, in the area in front of the Hotel Real Marina. Those interested in participating must register until the 28th at the Chamber of Olhão, at the OlhãoPesca association or at Cooperativa Formosa.

At 16 pm, the traditional awards will be given to fishing professionals at the Paços do Concelho de Olhão, followed by the inauguration of the exhibition “Na Faina, D'Aqui Além”, at the Municipal Museum. Also at the Museum of Olhão, at 17:30 pm, a demonstration of mackerel hamburger will be held.

Fisherman's Day, in Olhão, is organized by the City Council, in partnership with the Sotavento Coastal Action Group and the Municipal Museum of Olhão.
