The City Council of Olhão marked the World Autism Awareness Day, on April 2, by illuminating the Paços do Concelho building in blue, the color that symbolizes the disease.
With this symbolic action, the municipality of Olhano aimed to contribute to an increase in solidarity awareness and greater knowledge of the disease, which is estimated to affect, in Portugal, around 1 in every thousand people, according to the Portuguese Federation of Autism.
The incidence of this disease is estimated to be on the rise, although what causes autism is still uncertain. Autism mainly affects males.
