Quelfes Games_opening 11abr2015The 6rd edition of Cheuff games will be launched next Saturday, in a ceremony that will take place at the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão, from 17 pm.

The Quelfes Games are «the biggest and most emblematic event to promote Olympism in Portugal, aimed at the 1st Cycle of Basic Education» and take place until April 19, in schools in Olhão, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira and Faro.

The opening ceremony will feature the performance of various music and dance groups, with "moments of surprise and emotion", but also with "a tribute to the Paralympic Committee of Portugal, in a year that also marks the debut of adapted sport in the official Games calendar». Admission is free and tickets can be requested at the ticket office in the Municipal Auditorium.

This event will "celebrate the mythological origins of the Quelfes Games Movement, centered on the stories and legends of the Ria Formosa".

In the municipality of Olhão, where the initiative was born, various activities will be promoted, namely: Men's Football, at the Municipal Stadium (April 16 at 09:30 am); Lenço Grego, at Escola Secundária Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes (April 15 at 14:30 pm) and Esgrima, at Escola EB 2,3 Alberto Iria (April 15 at 14:30 pm).

In addition to mayors from the five municipalities that host the Games this year, the president of the Olympic Committee of Portugal, José Manuel Constantino and the chairman of the Paralympic Committee of Portugal Humberto Santos will be present at the opening ceremony.

The VI Quelfes Games, which have the official seal of the International Olympic Academy and the International Center of the Olympic Truce, "in addition to the natural involvement of the national Olympic and Paralympic family."
