walkway 2The municipality of Vila Real de Santo António will have the largest pedestrian walkway in Sotavento and one of the largest in the Algarve region, connecting the beaches of Manta Rota and Lota, for about two kilometers.

The implantation of this wooden pedestrian structure (elevated by more than 1,2 kilometers) will join the final area of ​​the eastern park of Manta Rota (next to the tennis courts) with the Lota beach walkway, from where it will continue until Ribeira do Álamo , on the border with the municipality of Castro Marim.

According to the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, «the bridge will also allow the connection to the already existing network of walkways and walkways at Manta Rota beach, creating a continuous pedestrian route with more than two kilometers always along the sea line, with spectacular views over the sand and suitable for the practice of birdwatching».walkway 3

The route includes several leisure and rest areas, extends to the eastern part of Manta Rota and ends at the mouth of Ribeira do Álamo, next to the sand.

In terms of mobility, the municipality emphasizes that the walkway "will connect the two bathing areas without the need to use motorized vehicles, optimizing the parking spaces on the beaches".

The new structure is currently under construction and should be completed by the end of March and «was used in its construction treated pine wood, in order to have greater durability and a perfect landscape framing with the site. of implantation'.

The construction of this new bridge is budgeted at €307.125,32 and is 70 percent financed by PO Algarve21. The execution is in charge of the company Alberto Couto Alves, SA.walkway 1

For Luís Gomes, Mayor of VRSA, «this intervention is a continuation of the project to refurbish the beach at Manta Rota, started by the Municipality of VRSA in 2005, in which more than two million euros were invested and transformed the beach into a benchmark in terms of accessibility and environmental quality'.

This project also guaranteed that bathing area the award for Praia Mais Acessível, a distinction that, according to the municipality, «will continue to be ensured with this new environmentally sustainable circuit» .
