March_Run_2015More than 4 people participated in a new edition of the Ria Formosa Race March and in the 1st mini-trail associated with it, which took place last Sunday, in Faro. This year, membership was twice the average.

The great attraction of these initiatives were «the contact with nature and the practice of physical exercise outdoors», considers the organization, in charge of the Chamber of Faro, with the collaboration of more than two dozen associative and business council entities. The spring climate, combined with the landscapes of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, in the Ludo area, seem to have been the perfect formula to reach numbers well above what is usual.

Most of the people present opted for the non-competitive modality, the Marcha Passeio, which had its 16th edition. But there were also those who bet on trail running, a sport whose popularity is growing in the region.

March_Run_2015 (1)The inaugural edition of the Ria Formosa Mini-Trail had 117 participants. In the men's category, Nuno Neves was the winner of the competition, followed by Bruno Rodrigues and Miguel Viegas, in 2nd and 3rd position, respectively. In the female category, Tânia Xavier was the winner, Liliana Veríssimo finished 2nd and 3rd place was guaranteed by Isabel Gonçalves.

Alongside the physical activities, the Algar company promoted the “Separar para Alimentar” (Separate for Food) campaign, with containers placed by the organization for the disposal of recyclable packaging waste, which will later be transformed into food to be donated to the Food Bank Against Hunger.

«From the opinions gathered at the end of the event from the participants, it was concluded that the degree of satisfaction with the initiative was very high, being considered by many as the biggest and best March Race of the Regional Calendar of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth. The beauty of the place where the activity takes place, the routes provided, the initial animation, the careful organization of the event and the favorable climate were factors that contributed to the success of the event», concluded the Chamber of Faro.
