A 44-year-old man was detained by the GNR of Vila do Bispo, indicted for the crime of theft at home, in the early hours of Saturday, after having robbed a holiday home in Burgau.
At around 6:00 am, during a patrol action, the GNR military were alerted to the possibility that a theft from a residence located in that location could be taking place, since the intrusion alarm had been activated at that time.
When the patrol arrived at the place, it was verified that the house had signs of burglary and that its interior showed signs of having been the target of theft.
After a search, the military located an individual hiding in the garden of the residence, usually used as a holiday home.
The man, according to the GNR, was “camouflaged by vegetation”. When he saw that he had been discovered, he began to flee, jumping over walls and "crossing the gardens of other dwellings in order to avoid capture".
But the GNR military chased him and managed to catch him "just a few meters from the place of occurrence". The alleged assailant "responded abruptly and violently to the arrest, physically attacking the military and throwing pepper spray."
When they finally caught him, after 'strong and continued resistance', the authorities searched the man and found in his possession 'objects connoted with the verified criminal offense, namely a pair of gloves, a flashlight, screwdrivers and a drill, in addition of the two cans of pepper spray with which he attacked the patrol».
A suitcase was also located next to the robbed house, which contained, among other objects, a hammer, binoculars, a large flashlight, two kitchen knives, bottles of alcoholic beverages and even various clothing.
The detainee, with a history of the same type of crime, was present at the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of Albufeira yesterday to apply the coercive measures.
