Several public and private buildings in more than 7 towns and cities around the world will go dark on March 28 for one hour, between 20:30 pm and 21:30 pm, for the benefit of the Planet. In the Algarve, Albufeira, Faro, Loulé, Olhão, Quarteira and Vilamoura will also join Earth Hour 2015, an initiative that is taking a stand against climate change.

In the case of Albufeira, buildings such as the Town Hall, the Municipal Library, the Gallery, the Igreja Matriz and Church of Sant'Ana and the Torre do Relógio will be left in darkness.
Earth Hour is an initiative of the non-governmental organization World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which began as a unique symbolic gesture of a single city, Sydney (Australia), in 2007.
This ecological campaign was intended to be a reminder of the consequences of climate change and to raise awareness, from ordinary citizens to companies, of the need to help the Planet in its regeneration, conservation and preservation. In the last eight years, Earth Hour has grown and is now recognized as the largest environmental campaign in the world, mobilizing billions of people in more than 7 cities and towns in 162 countries and territories.

This year, for the first time, one of the projects that the Earth Hour international crowdfunding platform recommends for donations and support is the WWF project in Portugal “Save Corks, Cats & Our Climate” on the conservation of cork oak forests and its services ecosystem, natural habitat of emblematic species such as the Iberian lynx and which act as a barrier against climate change and desertification.

By visiting the link earthhour.org/crowdfunding, citizens around the world have the opportunity to donate and support a Portuguese project, our biodiversity and the organization's work in the country.
