Orange Party - CMP_Filipe da Palma ArchiveThe Mercado da Avenida S. João de Deus, in Portimão, will host the Festa da Laranja, for the eighth consecutive year, between the 18th and 21st of February. In focus will be the Algarve orange, which can be purchased at a single price of 29 cents per kilo, while the event is taking place.

In addition to being able to buy this type of citrus at "a very special price", those who go to the Portimonian market will also be able to attend culinary demonstrations and tastings, where this juicy and typical Algarve product will be the star.

All sectors of activity in the market will join the party and will be involved in the theme. The fruit and vegetable sector will decorate its stalls accurately, with elements alluding to the orange, and in the Bread and Cakes sector it will be possible to purchase products made with this citrus fruit.

The butchers and delicatessen sector and the fish, shellfish and seafood sector, participate in this festival by promoting the consumption of products that are also made with oranges, sharing their cooking tricks and recipes and applying each of the operators promotions on various products , free form.

For the 20th and 21st of February, two culinary demonstration actions are scheduled, to take place from 10:30 am at Sítio dos Fresquinhos, in charge of Iguarias Restaurants (operator in this market, on the outside floor) and Ameli, respectively.

The initiative is organized by the Municipality of Portimão, the managing entity of Traditional Markets and Fairs, and by the commission of operators in the fruit and vegetable sector.

«Since the first hour that the Festa da Laranja has been well received by both operators and consumers, having in the seven previous editions registered a global sale that amounted to 45 tonnes of oranges in the Algarve», illustrated the municipality of Portimo.
