The house filled up and there were many people who stayed at the door. The main room of Teatro das Figuras was “a pineapple”, this Wednesday, not due to a show, but to the presentation of the Portugal 2020 Operational Programme.
This was the first of a series of sessions that the Deputy and Regional Development Minister Miguel Poiares Maduro will hold in different regions of the country, to make known the strategy and rules of the new community support framework, in force between 2014 and 2020 .
An initiative that did not pass by the side of the Algarve, with the Theater room filling up, with more than 800 people present, representing the most varied sectors of the Algarve society.
Also present was a group of homeowners from Praia de Faro and of islets in the Ria Formosa, which protested against the demolitions that are already underway, accusing the Government and Polis Society of tearing down their homes without providing an alternative, leaving families homeless.
Entrepreneurs, mayors, association directors and representatives of public entities learned about the guidelines of Portugal 2020, as well as the program related to the Algarve, Cresc 2020, that had already been advanced to the Sul Informação by Poiares Maduro, in an exclusive interview.
There were still dozens of people outside the room, who were unable to register in time, but who waited until the last one, to try to fill vacant places with eventual withdrawals.
A membership that reflects the interest generated by the new community funds program, which will run until 2020. A funding period that will focus on economic growth, as highlighted by Poiares Maduro, and where mistakes from the past are to be avoided.
The minister does not hide that community funds have not always been well used in Portugal, which is why he defends that their attribution should follow the logic of "arranging funds for projects, and not projects for funds".
