gyro_1From the 1st of February, the Blue and Red lines of the Giro, Albufeira's public transport system, will be extended to cover a larger area and serve more users. Schedules will also change.

Three of the five lines in circulation – red 1 and 2, and blue – will be extended, in order to serve areas of the city that until now did not have public transport services.

Thus, the Blue Circuit starts to reach Torre da Medronheira, while the Red Line 1 extends to Orada and the Red Line 2 ends in Branqueira.

To ensure these new routes, EVA Transportes will acquire eight more buses and build passenger shelters at the new stops.

The schedule of the routes will also be changed, starting from 07:00 am to 20:00 pm, from October to May, and from 07:00 am to 22:00 pm, from June to September, with an estimated waiting time of 30 minutes, except on weekends and holidays, from 14 pm onwards, which has an hourly frequency.

gyro_2This means of transport costs 1,40 euros for an on-board ticket (valid for one trip), and 4,00 euros for a tourist ticket (valid for one day, unlimited travel on the four circuits).

In addition to the Blue and Red lines, the GIRO offers the Green and Orange circuits, which serve the urban area of the parish of Albufeira (Páteo, Marina, Oura, Montechoro, and most educational establishments) and ensure also the connection from Albufeira to Ferreiras, including access to the Railway Station.

Completing eleven years since its creation, on August 20, 2004, the GIRO has registered close to 12 million uses.
